What's this? Every two weeks, we'll provide an update about what's new with the web apps, dashboards, and tools created and supported by Teaching & Learning Analytics.

UCI Spark

• A tour is now displayed to students when they first visit their dashboard after completing the questionnaire. The tour shows where several key Spark features can be found. It can be replayed at any time via the Start Tour link.
• Created a new internal tool to simulate different quarters and weeks, which helps to streamline demos, testing, and development of Spark

UCI Appointments

• New Analytics tab provides direct access to the Tableau analytics tools; this tab is displayed to all staff and managers, and has instructions on how to request access to the dashboards.

Unizin Data Services

• More complete Person data populated for users where that data was not readily available from Canvas itself

Compass Explorer

• Updated to newest version of Tailwind UI and Daisy UI
• Refreshed look and feel to better reflect UC Irvine branding changes
• Updated list of partners on the homepage

UCI Spark

• Sparks can now specifically be targeted at students based upon their incoming status (first-year or transfer)
• Several sparks have been updated to support this new targeting criteria
• The History chart on the Spark Library now resizes when the window is resized
• Handling of custom icons and colors for sparks is now tracked in the Spark database, rather than in the spark template file

Compass Data

• The Compass TLA database has been migrated to EC2 along with the Student Data Warehouse; this is a cost-savings move and should have no discernable impact on the user experience of our tools

Unizin Data Services

• Housing status (on campus or off campus) is now available in the UDP in the Person - Academic Term entity
• The UDP Client App now supports looking up data by course offering

Teaching & Learning Analytics Website

• Updated to use the latest stable release of Tailwind and DaisyUI
• Theme updated to more closely match UCI branding

Spark

• Added a new "For You" tab that displays all the sparks a user matches with in the current week.

  If Sparks haven't been generated for the current week, they'll instead see the sparks for the week in which they previously visited (as sparks are ranked only when the dashboard is accessed for the first time in a given week).

• On the Spark Library, changed the "All" view to an "Alphabetic" view instead

  Prior to this update, sparks were sorted in the order in which they were uploaded to the system.

• On the Spark Library, the various toggles at the top have been consolidated into an updated header; mobile display has also been enhanced
• Enhanced logging features to log additional details to better facilitate support and analytics needs.

Student Attribute Manager

• Added new loading indicator when uploading a file to an attribute

  We have identified the updates necessary to fix the severe performance issue when uploading large files, especially when uploading to large lists. We are evealuating how to best approach this project._

• Increased timeout period when uploading files to provide a workaround to the slow uploads

Explorer

• Enhanced logging features (used for supporting the tool and providing aggregate reports as needed) to log additional fields.

ScoreShare

• Enhanced logging features (used for supporting the tool and providing aggregate reports as needed) to log additional fields.

Unizin Data Services

• Provided data to populate the Course Grades table in the Unizin Data Platform with final grades from the UCI Student Data Warehouse

• Students can now easily access the UCI Canvas course space from within the Course Analytics for that course
• Admins can now easily edit sparks from within the tool
• Resolved several pieces of technical debt

Teaching & Learning Analytics Website

• Added new "Unizin Data Services" hub to highlight this innovative new service from the OIT Student Data Warehouse and Copmpass Teaching & Learning Analytics teams

  Going forward, updates to Unizin services, the UDP, and related offerings will be grouped under a new "Unizin Data Services" listing

• Added ability to match sparks with students who are not enrolled in a particular class
• Added ability to favorite, access Help, and provide feedback on a spark from within the LTI integration with UCI Canvas

ScoreShare

• Migrated to AWS from on-premise data center

Student Attribute Manager

• Migrated to AWS from on-premise data center

Unizin Data Platform

• Populated data elements in Person - Academic Term to help differentiate between students who started as first-years vs. transfer

• Big new feature alert: Spark is now available from directly within UCI Canvas as an LTI integration. Just click on "UCI Spark" on the blue sidebar to quickly access the tool.

  The LTI integration provides direct access to the dashboard; other features will launch in a new tab. This is due to limitations in how LTI integrations work.

Compass Data

• Pre-UCI student exam data is now sourced from the UCI Student Data Warehouse

• Updated default term to Winter Quarter 2025
• Updated in-tool questionnaire to new Winter Quarter 2025 form
• Removed all Fall pilot restrictions from UCI Spark
